Review by Sherri Allen:
Little Mouse sets off in search of a new house at the beginning of A New House for Mouse by Petr Horacek. She's decided she needs something bigger. Along the way, Little Mouse peeks into the increasingly larger homes of various animal friends, but none of the houses are right for Little Mouse. In the end, Little Mouse finds a house that is just perfect. It's tiny, but it has everything she needs.
The watercolor and cut paper illustrations depicting Little Mouse and her search are bold, graphic and eye-catching. The cut-outs on the pages are amusing and allow for playing a little peekaboo with Little Mouse.
A New House for Mouse is a very nice storybook that subtly teaches children an important lesson. They'll learn from Little Mouse that at the end of a long day, the best place to be is in their very own beds.
